Common Experiences for ADHDers
Executive Functioning Differences
ADHDers often have different executive function profiles from non-ADHDers: driven more by passion & urgency than priority. You may struggle with procrastination, distractibility, finishing tasks. Perhaps you aren't able to do the things that you value most.
Anxiety
With a fast moving mind and/or body can come anxiety - that constant nagging feeling that something's wrong or about to go wrong. It's hard to enjoy life when worry is hanging over our heads. It's hard to know what to move towards and value when we're simply trying to avoid the 'bad'
Depression
When you feel or are told over and over that there's something wrong with you, that you're lazy or stupid, a part of you can't help but to believe it. You may start to feel worthless, hopeless, and alone. Building a life that feels valuable or worth living may seem impossible.
Relationships
For some ADHDers, building deep relationships can feel out of reach. Maybe you have many acquaintances but are missing people you can share depth with. Or maybe you struggle to build friendships at all. Being in relationship requires skills that you may not have learned.
